Social security

What is a SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?

It is mandatory for any employee in Spain to get a Social Security Number in order to pay your contributions to the Spain’s Social Security system. Those contributions will give you the right to access the public health-care system

How can I get my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?

Please send as soon as possible the following form completed as well as a copy of your passport to your recruiter.

Here you will find a guide to help you fill up the form.

Teleperformance will take care of the process itself (it takes around two working days).

We recommend that you send the documentation as soon as possible because if you do not have the social security number you can not start working in the company.

When you receive your employment contract to sign, you will find your Social Security number (Número de afiliación a la Seguridad Social) on the first page in the contract section “Datos de la cuenta de Cotización”. But if you need the certificate you can obtain it in the following ways:

You can visit the social security office in which the citizen’s domicile is located or where the company in which the worker provides services is domiciled. You can check the address here.

NIE

What is a NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero)?

It is an identification number for foreigners in Spain that you will need in order to work and open a bank account.

How can I get my NIE?

Teleperformance is taking care of it on your behalf, but it is crucial that the Human Resources team get as soon as possible (ideally no later than your first day of work) your “EX18” form completed in order to book an appointment for you.

Due to the Covid Situation, currently it can take up to 2 months to get this appointment. Once we have the date of your appointment, we will communicate it to you.

* If you are not a citizen of the European Union the process is different. Please contact your recruiter to find out more about it.

How long does it take to get my NIE and can I work during the application process?

it will take between 1 and 3 months to get your NIE however you can work during the application process. The Human Resources team will contact you as soon as the process is done.

Bank Account

In order to receive any payment we need you to provide us with a Spanish bank account. In order to facilitate the process we share some information:

Banc Sabadell gives the possibility to open a bank account without NIE, before you arrive in Spain, called “Key Account”. In order to do so, write an email to Maite (MSOLDEVILA@bancsabadell.com), where you must explain that you have been hired by Teleperformance. You would have to share by email a passport copy, Home country and Barcelona address, mobile phone number, email and profession (documents must be in English, French, Spanish, or Catalan. Otherwise, they will need an official translation in one of the 4 accepted languages by an accredited translator). We would like to highlight that this contract has a management fee (until you get your NIE) of 40€, which is charged quarterly on the following dates: December 24, March 24, June 24 and September 24. Some other banks accept to open a bank account without NIE: Caixa Bank, or Nickel.

Please note these are private companies not related to Teleperformance and conditions may vary.

We highly recommend you to start the process to open a bank account as soon as possible,before the 20th of the first month, in order to ensure you get your first salary on time.

Once you have your bank account open, please upload the document/screenshot with your name and IBAN to Portal empleado (Admin HR/Support request HR/select reason=documentation/Type=bank account/your email/upload the document).

Healthcare

Spanish public healthcare system provides a high quality of services with well-trained medical staff, a good network of hospital and medical centres, some of which are ranked amongst the best in the world.

How can I get my health insurance card?

Get first your Padron *please refer to the Empadronamiento
Go to the nearest C.A.P. (Centre d’Attention Primaria) from your home, although you can register online and apply for your Health card called “TSI (Tarjeta Sanitaria Individual)”. To do so, you must have along your Padron and your Passport.

This card entitles you to be assisted by public health-care system throughout the Spanish territory (in case you need it while you are on a trip or on holiday).

It will also allow you to go the doctor and get a medical certificate if you are on sick leave.

What is a C.A.P.?

CAP stand for “Centre d’Attention Primaria” (The Primary Care Center).

It’s the first place to go when you have a health problem or when you want to prevent illness. It offers health and social assistance, and health promotion services, preventive, curative and rehabilitative care.

This medical centre is free, you just need to have your personal health-care card from the Catalan health system (CatSalut Card) in order to request the appointment.

Sick leave

What should I do if I am sick?

If you are sick and are not able to come to work, please inform as soon as possible your Team Leader. Then you will be obliged to send the medical certificate (justificante médico) to the Human Resources team within 48 hours.

To obtain the medical certificate you must visit the Nearest CAP and asking for a “Baja“. Please bear in mind that only a doctor from the public health system can provide you with a sick leave certificate (justificante de baja médica). A private doctor’s certificate is not valid.

To send to the Human Resources team you need to follow these steps In “Portal del empleado“;

Click on “Admin HR”
Click on “Support request HR”
Select “document” for the reason
Select “Absence” for the type
Write your email address as well as any comment if any
Select the medical certificate to attach
Click on the button “Send Request”

* Before 6 months of seniority if you present medical certification on time is considered justified absence but you won´t get paid.

What happens if you have covid symptoms?

If you have COVID-19 symptoms you must follow the indications of the established protocols that you can find in portal empleado (Health & Safety – Procedimientos).

Census

What is an Empadronamiento and how can I get mine?

“Empadronamiento” refers to the process of registering with your community’s padrón (city roll), also called the “Padrón Municipal de Habitantes”. The “municipal padrón” is the official record of all the people who live in a particular community and is the official way to verify or accredit your stay in Spain. You can register at the nearest town hall (ayuntamiento) in your neighbourhood or any town hall in the city but always with an appointment. You need a passport, your Social Security Number and a proof of living in Spain to do so.

Contract

When do I sign the Contract?

You will sign your contract (digitally) within your first week working in Teleperformance. The contract will be in Spanish as requested by law but you will also receive at the same time the translation in English.

Taxes

How does Taxes work?

Spain follows a pay-as-you-earn system tax with monthly withholdings. The income tax and the social-security contributions are deducted by the employers on behalf of the employees.

In Spain there are 2 types of Taxes:

1) Social Security Taxes

It is a % that you will have to pay on a monthly basis.

2) IRPF (Impuesto de Renta sobre las Personas Físicas). It is the % that you will pay monthly, based on your income and personal situation.

Renting a property

How does it work?

In Barcelona you can rent directly with the owner (to avoid agency fee) but most of them are through an agency, (agency fee is mostly one month rent). Usually, you will also have to pay a 2 months deposit.

Duration of the contract?

5 years (but the lease can stop at any time after 6 months, giving a month notice, and owner can stop it too after the first year giving also a month notice)

Process to ask for employment certificate

To support your application when you are looking for an apartment you can ask the HR department to get an employer letter/certificate. Here is the process:

1.Open Employee Portal

2.Click on “HR Admin”

3.Click on “Online Support “

4.On TP Spain Support’ form please select “consult certificate” as the reason, then enter your credentials and details of your request.

Please remember that it is not easy to find an apartment in Barcelona, so we recommend that you start looking as soon as possible!

Which languages are used?

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan and multilingual city where many languages are spoken in its streets, resulting from the vibrant international community established here.

There are two official languages in the city: Catalan and Spanish.

The overwhelming majority of Barcelona’s residents consider themselves fully bilingual. That means they can switch from Catalan to Spanish with ease. What is more, there are more and more people who understand and speak English and other international languages.
